Tracking Fabric, February Bee Block, and a Giveaway!

***Giveaway closed.***

I decided to start tracking my fabric this year, so as of December 26 (the start of my fiscal fabric year), I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all the fabric that comes in and out. It's only February 7, and I've already stashed over 17 yards of fabric! I've used 7 yards and will have a lot more once I finish a couple quilt tops that are pretty much done. I just can't believe that my fabric purchases over the last month and a half have added up to 17 yards!

Tracking Fabric

It's been a good exercise for me to start seeing how much fabric I'm buying, the money I'm spending on that fabric as well as on shipping, and seeing how productive I'm being by pushing fabric out. You can tell I'm a dork because I get excited to update my spreadsheet whenever a new package arrives.

Until today, the only thing I've been able to do with fabric for the last week or two has been tracking it with some occasional petting here and there. I started my new work schedule, which allows me to be home by 12:30 three days a week. After a few chores (I gotta earn my play time, right?), I made this block for Emily.

February Block for Emily

Emily wanted us to make these offset square/rectangle blocks using Joel Dewberry's Heirloom line. She gave us free reign to put anything we want inside the framed rectangle. I opted for rectangular string blocks. I used Kona Sage for the X and border and I really love how this block turned out.

Now for the giveaway. I've changed my plans for my Figgy Pudding Christmas quilt and want to give one of you the Swoon pattern I bought.

If you'd like to win this pattern, simply leave a comment. The giveaway will be open until Saturday afternoon/evening MST, February 11 and then I'll draw the winner. Good luck!

I don't want to track my fabric purchases, it's too scary! i received FOUR bundles this week and it's only Tuesday. Okay, one of those was a ruler but still...

Please include me in your giveaway, I love that pattern!

I've been looking to purchase this pattern, but never seem to rationalize spending the money on myself! Would love to win it :D

I don't know if I could be as brave as you and track my fabric! But I did a quick check of the projects I have bought fabric for(all from Christmas) money and I have projects to last for the next couple of years!!

Has that stopped me from looking for more? No sir!!! Don't know what I'm going to do with myself-why not Swoon!!

The yards add up quickly, don't they? I love that you nerd out on the spreadsheet, though. :)

Your Heirloom block is so gorgeous! I would love to learn how to make one, especially with the itty bitty strings you used. :)

Wow, I love how well you're doing tracking your fabric purchases. I've bought a lot so far this year too. I know I bought 6 yards, plus 25 fat quarters just last week, so that's about 14 yards. I'd love to win the Swoon pattern. I've wanted to make it for myself, since most of what I sew is for others.

I'm sad that I haven't bought any fabric this year, but we are saving up for our new baby coming soon. Thanks for the giveaway, I've been admiring that pattern for months.

I tried tracking my fabric purchases...that's was a big FAIL! Good luck :)

I'd love to win the swoon pattern. Everytime I'm shopping online for fabric it ends up in my shopping cart but I have yet to buy it.

It seems like everyone is making this quilt!! I really should finish what I'm doing first but it wouldn't do any harm to have the pattern ready would it????

I find that the less I look at fabric sale emails, the less I buy. But it's so much less fun that way! Thanks for the chance to win.
