Buttercup bag

Yesterday, I spent a few hours working on the Buttercup bag. I thought it would take me a couple nights to get it done, but (surprisingly), I got it all cut, sewn, and put together last night.


I bought a bag from Jessica Jones' etsy shop (now closed) last year because I love her fabric. I didn't realize that I could make one for myself for a lot cheaper. The one I bought was a tad on the small side, but still super cute.


I enlarged the pattern pieces a bit and added orange lining and orange buttons. I think it turned out pretty well for my first attempt making a bag of any kind. I have enough fabric to try another one, but I think next time I'll use a heavier fabric for the lining and sew the strap before I sew the inner and outer pieces together.


I decided to omit the decorative fabric piece to go under the buttons as well as add an extra pocket for the inside.

Look what came in the mail for me yesterday.

I won a fabric giveaway on Gracie Lou's blog last week. I got to choose a fat quarter pack of either Oz, Nautical & Nice, or Blush. Of course, I chose Blush. I love love love it!


I don't have solid plans for the Blush yet, but with the Jessica Jones fabric I'm going to make a bigger version of this Buttercup bag with the blue and maybe this tote with the green.

Magnet Boards

Although this wasn't a sewing project, I finally got around to taking pictures of the magnet boards I made in October for a Super Saturday activity with my mom's ward. I bought red, white, and black paper because I planned on making a board for my sister-in-law for Christmas and she loves those colors. They also happened to be the colors of my bedroom at the time so I made one for me too. When my quilt is finished, I'll have to redo this board so it matches the colors in our room. Oranges, blues, and greens.


I also bought blue and green paper that I just had to have and ended up making a magnet board that is now hanging in my son's room. It matches his room much better than if it were hanging anywhere else in the house. We put these cute pictures on it of him when he was a little tyke. I can't believe he's turning three next week!

Rag Quilts

Back in October, I bought a ton of flannel that was on sale at Joann's. I made my son a rag quilt before Christmas and never got around to taking pictures of it. I used seven inch cut squares that were finished to six inches, making the quilt 36 by 48 inches. A perfect size. He loves cars and emergency vehicles so I paired these together. It's really bright, but he loves it.


I didn't have quite enough flannel, so I cut up an old denim skirt and used some of it on the back.


Yesterday, I stayed home from church with my sick baby girl and made her this rag quilt. I cut the squares ten inches and finished them to nine inches, making the quilt 36 by 45. It came together a lot quicker using 20 squares rather than 48 and it turned out as well as the other.

There you have 'em. I wish I had an unlimited supply of money and time and patience so I could make more quilts. At the rate I'm going, my spring bed quilt will be done a month and a half after I started it!

Spring quilt

Here are some photos of the quilt I'm in the process of making for my room. The mister and I wanted to mix things up a bit from what we've had in our room for the past ~five years. Since spring is on its way, we thought these colors would really brighten up the space.

The quilt top. I was inspired by Simply Authentic by Natalia from Piece N Quilt, but I altered it to fit the fabrics I wanted.



One of three throw/accent pillows I'll be making out of orange fabric to tie the bedding in with the orange wall.


The backing. I wanted the quilt to be reversible without having to piece as much as the front.


I finished piecing the backing yesterday. Next few steps? Baste, quilt, and bind. It's going to be a long process, but I'll be so pleased when it's complete.

Simple pillowcases

This is a silly thing to get excited about, but I made my first ever pillowcases yesterday. As part of the quilt I'm making for my bedroom, I wanted to make pillowcases to match that would be easier than shams that we wouldn't sleep on. I had read this post a few days ago and figured it was easy enough for me. I didn't even have to refer to it when I stitched the cases yesterday. Go me!
