A Busy Week

My to-do list for the week is a mile long. My sisters and I are having a garage sale on Saturday, my three-year-old started at a new preschool on Monday, I've been trying to finish up the charity quilt (binding to be done tonight), and I have a lot of last minute to-dos for our Super Saturday (annual Saturday craft day for the women in my church congregation) announcement this Sunday.

I also had some health problems over the weekend, adding to the stress around our house. I used sewing as therapy and made a lunch sack, reusable snack bags, and a baby quilt top this weekend, in addition to quilting the charity quilt.

But, as I haven't had time to take pictures of any of those things yet, I thought I'd show you one of the projects we may offer at our Super Saturday activity. I already showed you the appliqué tree pillow. We're having a couple of wood projects, including these countdown blocks. I made these for Halloween last year, but the women can make them for any holiday they want just by changing the scrapbook paper.

I bought a 4x4 at Home Depot, had my hubby cut it into blocks for me, and then sanded and painted them. I bought a couple Halloween scrapbook pages, and had my sister cut me some vinyl numbers. I went with a non-traditional Halloween color (blue) for the paint and really like how it turned out. Although, my sister used the same paper, but painted her blocks black and they look great.

I made countdown to Christmas blocks, but I don't love the scrapbook paper I chose. I think I'll redo them this year to match the colors of my tree (ornaments, tree skirt, etc.) rather than using the traditional red and green color scheme.

Chore Chart

A while back, I saw the chore chart Emily at Not So Idle Hands made for her little girls and knew I wanted to make one some day. At the time, my oldest was not quite three and we hadn't been working a ton on making him do chores. But, now that he's three and a half, I thought it would be good to make one. I used Emily's magnet images, but only used the chores that I felt my son would be able to do (clear the table, pick up toys, get the mail, etc.) as well as some other chores that he can help with (sweeping, vacuuming, cooking dinner, etc.).

I already had this magnet board lying around and decided it would be great for this project. I printed the chart itself out on scrapbook paper and cut it to fit within the frame. I didn't modpodge the paper down, like Emily did, because I am thinking I may use the magnet board for another project too (like a Family Home Evening board). I did, however, follow Emily's directions for printing and making the magnets. I ordered the glass tiles, magnets, and diamond glaze from Sun and Moon on Etsy.

This project was so easy and I really love the tiles and magnets that I bought online. I've made fridge magnets before, but anytime one of my kids would drop one on the floor, the glass gem would separate from the magnet, which was a pain.

Now I have a good tool for teaching my son how to work and it's cute too, which is always a plus.

Magnet Boards

Although this wasn't a sewing project, I finally got around to taking pictures of the magnet boards I made in October for a Super Saturday activity with my mom's ward. I bought red, white, and black paper because I planned on making a board for my sister-in-law for Christmas and she loves those colors. They also happened to be the colors of my bedroom at the time so I made one for me too. When my quilt is finished, I'll have to redo this board so it matches the colors in our room. Oranges, blues, and greens.

I also bought blue and green paper that I just had to have and ended up making a magnet board that is now hanging in my son's room. It matches his room much better than if it were hanging anywhere else in the house. We put these cute pictures on it of him when he was a little tyke. I can't believe he's turning three next week!
